Kefir… what’s the big idea?

Gut health is a hot topic and finding ways to pack yours with friendly bacteria is high on the agenda.  So, if you haven’t yet tried it, you’re sure to have heard about.

What exactly is Kefir?

It starts life as some odd-looking ‘grains’ and a glass of cow’s milk. These Kefir ‘grains’ are, in actual fact, cultures of beneficial bacteria and yeast originating from the Caucasus Mountains. The ‘grains’ are added to the milk and left to ferment in optimal conditions. This allows the beneficial bacteria to thrive and leaves us with what we know to be gut friendly Kefir!

So now we know where is comes from, but what are the benefits we hear you ask?

Cow’s dairy Kefir is naturally high in both calcium and protein, but this little bottle of goodness is also packed full of nutrients, vitamins including B2 and B12, anti-oxidants, antibodies and most importantly billions of gut friendly bacteria!

Did you know that there are 39 trillion bacterial cells in the body? With this in mind, it’s important to keep your good bacteria topped up. Doing so has been known to contribute to:

  • A healthy immune system
  • Supporting digestion
  • Weight management
  • Reduction of tiredness
  • Recovery after exercise
  • Maintenance of normal bones, teeth, muscle function, skin and vision
