SUSTAINABILITY AT CRUSSH

Delivering great-tasting, high quality food is a top priority at Crussh, and the packaging we serve our food in plays a very important role in this. But, we recognise the impact food packaging has on the environment and we know we need to make improvements to reduce our usage of plastic and move to more sustainable solutions.

Unfortunately, sustainability is a complex issue and sadly we can’t change things overnight! But we have made a start and we’re committed to making changes as quickly as we can, tackling them one by one. If you have any suggestions then please do get in touch, the more ideas the better.

Here is an overview of where we are today, and what we’re working towards.

TODAY:

  • A number of our packaging items like napkins and coffee sleeves are made from recycled materials and are 100% biodegradable.
  • 99% of our plastics are widely recyclable.
  • In all stores with seating, mugs are available for hot drinks instead of take-away cups.
  • In half of our stores, our waste is taken to an energy recovery facility in Southwark where our waste is turned into energy and used by the National Grid to power local homes with electricity.

OUR 2018 COMMITMENTS:

  • By Easter, we will remove all plastic straws from our business, and replace these with a compostable solution.
  • By Easter, we will begin a trial of compostable cutlery in selected stores.
  • This year, we will find a sustainable, recyclable solution for our disposable coffee cups.
  • We will work on all our waste streams to minimise what we send to landfill.

THE FUTURE:

  • We will continue to progressively remove single use plastics from our business and aim to serve all our food & drink in reusable, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable packaging
