Hello! We are Crussh Fit Food & Juice bars, London’s leading healthy eating retailer, on a mission to improve the nation’s wellbeing through our great-tasting, healthy food. Founded in 1998 in the City of London, we now have 35 stores across London and the South East, and are growing, opening stores all across the UK!
That often means lots of unusual ingredients, lots of plant-based recipes, and products that cater for customers with allergens or special diets. Creating nutritionally balanced recipes is at the forefront of our food development, and we have a huge range of food that’s gluten free or dairy free, as well as products that are high in protein, or low fat.
All our raw fruit & vegetable juices are freshly pressed, and our smoothies are freshly blended-to-order with real fruit & low-fat frozen yoghurt. Our extensive range of ‘Fit Food’ is handmade daily in Crussh kitchens, and is designed to taste great, keep you fit and contribute to good health, whatever your diet.
Flat white? Turmeric latte? Smart coffee with Bulletproof? We’ve got it covered. And we’ve got the largest range of plant-based milks on the high street, so you can choose from oat, soya, almond alongside organic dairy milks.
At Crussh we’ve always had a lot of love for vegetables and have lots of veggie and vegan options on our menu; currently, 70% of our range is vegetarian and 45% is vegan. There is so much goodness to be had from plants, pulses, grains, nuts and seeds so you’ll find these throughout most of our dishes!
We don’t have any beef or lamb on our menu, and over the years we’ve also reduced the amount of pork we use in our dishes.
A lot of this is great, but some of it can be confusing for customers, with different laws for different types of businesses, and as a result, businesses are interrupting the law in different ways. Until there’s more guidance in this area, all we can do is ensure we give our customers the information they need, in the clearest way possible.
Plus, we also have this Product Information Manual (PIM), that contains a list of the ingredients, allergens and nutritional info for every single Crussh product and you can ask to see this at ANY time! We train our teams to use this book as the single reference point and encourage them not to answer any questions without checking first. So, please don’t be surprised if they refer you here instead of answering what may seem like a simple question, we ask them to do this so we get you the right information and avoid any potentially serious mistakes being made.
We have strict processes and procedures in place in our Crussh kitchen to eliminate cross contamination risks, so we can say that products are free from certain allergens. We do however handle nuts and sesame in our cooking methods, and they are commonly used by our suppliers, so although we have procedures in place to minimise cross contamination risks, we do highlight this on our labels in case there are traces of these allergens present. All of the food in our fridge has allergen information on the packaging, as well as on the shelf ticket, so you can check the allergens before you buy the product.
All of our juices, smoothies, hot drinks, hot breakfast and hot lunch are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchens where we handle different allergens in a very small and very busy space. So, although we have processes in place to reduce the risk of cross contamination, we can’t 100% guarantee these products are completely free from allergens.
Within these areas, there are lots of products that are made without any allergen-containing ingredients, for example all our juices are made with non-gluten and non-dairy containing ingredients, but due to a very small cross contamination risk, we don’t label these as GF or DF just in case. So, if you have a mild intolerance, or are vegan for example, you can happily enjoy all of these products, but if you have a severe milk allergy, you may choose to avoid these.
If you have any other questions or would like any further info, please get in touch with us at: feedback@crussh.com
Unfortunately, sustainability is a complex issue and sadly we can’t change things overnight! But we’re committed to making changes as quickly as we can, tackling them one by one. If you have any suggestions then please do get in touch, the more ideas the better.
To help reduce our impact, we operate our ‘½ price fit food sale’ - Fresh fit food, half price, every day, 1 hour before close. This helps reduce the amount of food going in the bin at the end of the day, and helps you get delicious Crussh food, for ½ the price! We introduced this across our business in 2017 and it reduced our food waste by over 2% and has become a real institution for our loyal customers.
In over half our stores, our food waste produced as a biproduct of production preparation, like our fresh juice, is put into designated food waste bags that are composted.
This can range from passing food to homeless people on the way home to more formal arrangements with organisations such as The Felix Project who pick up from 6 of our stores for distribution locally.
We’re continuously looking for additional ways to reduce our food waste so if you have any ideas, please get in touch!
Often rejected by supermarkets for looking a bit funny, these glorious bits of food and veg taste juice as good are a perfect for juicing or blending into a smoothie!
All of our Cold Press juices also use wonky fruit & veg, and are produced locally in East London.
All of our eggs are free range and we use British chicken in all of our salads, sandwiches, and wraps.
Our oat milk comes from the lovely people at Oatly, and our soya milk is Organic.
We get a lot of our bread from a local bakery called Paul Rhodes, who we worked with to create our own our unique sourdough spelt toastie recipe, as well as our pastries.
And finally, our wheatgrass is Organic and grown in a forest in Suffolk.
We pay Fairtrade premiums each year, and these premium payments are used by coffee farmers in Peru, Honduras & Colombia to invest in their businesses to make them more sustainable for the future. These funds are also used for community development projects based on needs identified by the groups themselves.
We are always on the lookout for team members and managers who share these values and want to join our fit family! It is from the energy and enthusiasm of our teams that our success is driven.
